If you read Savage Sword of Conan, read Robert E Howard, or even saw the Schwarzenegger flicks this was a disappointment. On the positive sides it had some ok special effects and the backdrops in some of the scenics were really nice. This said, the plot re-write for the origin... stunk. The traditional shaping of the man, from boy... thrown out. The beginning really irks me because they tried to re-write it as a cheesy self sacrifice scene, and ignored Conan's growing up enslaved... The reason he hates slavery. If you never read the comic or saw the original. You don't have the scale to set it against... good for you, but for those of us who know better this film was like a less tolerable made for tv movie. Lastly, It has been pointed out to me that the scenes with the horse falling is not how horses are trained in stunt work, and that if this isn't an effect... Animals were being injured in the making of this movie. Which is it?

I really enjoyed the movie! I liked it more than the Arnold movie. This newer version explained more--a lot more. Also, Momoa's body type better fits the Conan concept. Momoa is muscled an agile. Arnold, Mr. Universe that he was, was indeed very bulked. Conan needs to be very agile. Again, really liked the movie--soundtrack was good too.

This movie was better than I excepted it to be. There was action pretty much the entire movie, which is what I really like. Conan's acting was quite good. He actually acted how a barbarian should. The special effects were great. One problem I had with it was that the blood spurts at times were a little over the top on some scenes. Other than that, I really enjoyed it and would see it again when it comes out on dvd. When it says Rated R, it isn't being put lightly. There is quite a bit of nudity, and the violence is quite graphic and gory. I strongly recommend that ages 16 and below don't watch this. If you don't like watching movies with a lot of nudity or very graphic violence, don't watch this.

Men you will like it due to violence. There is plenty of bloody gore and war along with gratuitous bare breasts. Women you will enjoy Conan because he is hot!
